The Triad ACACIA National Newsletter Summer, 2007 http://www.acacia.org As a new representative of the chapter, I’m excited to say we are heading in an amazing direction. At the end of the school year the chapter turned over control to the next executive board of great Acacians. The new leaders of the fraternity have short and long term goals to better the chapter and community and we are excited to get started. This year we will be focusing our time on philanthropy more than ever. In the spring we held our food drive philanthropy and it was a great success as our philanthropy chair Matt Schafer organized more than 8 fraternities and sororities to raise canned goods for Habitat for Humanity. Now, in the fall we will have our 3rd annual Acacia Bowl to end our “7 Days of Service”. This will involve everything from cookouts to reading to children and we will try to make it the biggest philanthropy on campus, while adding more than 200 community service hours in the process. More information will be on our new chapter website, rushacacia.com, in the upcoming month. Looking again to next semester, we are getting ready for Rush 2007 and having another historical pledge class. Last years group of 40 gentlemen produced the largest pledge class in decades, as well as the largest on campus. As we lost 20 amazing leaders to graduation this spring, we came out again with 14 outstanding new members to improve our chapter. With another great rush this fall we will be one of the top 4 biggest houses on campus. Amongst these accomplishments we are excitedly coming that much closer to reaching our goal of a new permanent house for the University of Illinois chapter of Acacia. Our capital campaign is receiving many large donations from alumni and in the next two years we will have a new, stable home for decades to come, and the entire University of Illinois chapter of Acacia is excited to see our hard work finally coming to fruition.
